Gazebos on the river

Gazebos on the river at Ware

Gazebos on the river at Ware

For many years I lived in Ware, in Hertfordshire, a town with many claims to fame – including the legendary Great Bed of Ware which was built for one of the many coaching inns which lined the High Street, and which is now at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Less well known, perhaps, but just as striking in their own way are the gazebos which sit at the end of private gardens facing on to the river.  Today’s image shows one of them – an elaborate construction in brick and pristine white, standing out against the clear blue sky beyond.  Poised gently over the river, I imagine this would be a wonderful place to take a newspaper and a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning, and watch the river traffic pass to and fro.
