An archetypal castle

I first visited Bodiam Castle when I was in my mid-30s.  But as a child, if I’d been asked to draw a castle, it would probably have looked a bit like Bodiam.  Well, maybe not that much like it as I have never been able to draw, but the intention would have been there.  Because Bodiam is, for me, one of the most archetypal of castles – the thick stone walls looming over a wide, dark moat; the imposing crenellations around its top; and the long bridge connecting the outside world with the fortress within.
