I love exploring the bits of London which are off the tourist trail – in fact this scene is very close to my home in south London. It was part of a project I did a few years ago with a Stockwell community group, leading to a small art installation at the summer fair (the wet and windy nature of which added an unexpected sense of drama to the artwork!).
Today’s image is largely about line and pattern – the strong line of the railing plunging deep into the image, and the structure offered by the repetition of the windows in the buildings. But I also like the way that some elements disrupt that order and symmetry, such as the organic shapes of the trees, and the irregular “humps” of the car shadows along the left of the picture.
