Sources of light

When exploring new places, I spend a lot of time looking up – it’s amazing what you notice when you look above you.  Today’s image at first glance appears very simply to be of a chandelier, but what I like about it is the fact that a number of things disrupt that simplicity.

For example, the lamp fittings themselves do not appear to be symmetrically arranged, with a few sitting slightly outside the ordered pattern.  It also seems to be an occupational hazard for large chandeliers to have a couple of bulbs not working, and this one is no exception, which again disrupts the order of the image.  Finally, of course, the artificial lamps are not the only light source in the image, with the natural light filtering in through the glass lantern in the roof above.
