I lived in Devon as a toddler, so I must have seen St Michael’s Mount as a child, but to be honest I can’t remember having done so. The first time I “knowingly” saw it was in 2011, when we were visiting friends down in Cornwall.
And what a view it was. The sun was shining, the sky was clear with just a few stray hairs of cloud, and the sea was still. St Michael’s Mount stood like a jewel, resting in its setting of intense blue. And not just one blue, but myriad shades of blue as sea merged into sky. It’s a view I shall never forget, and testament to the sheer beauty of nature.
