A horse’s head

One of the areas I like to explore with guests on my Secret London Photo Walks is Mayfair.  It’s an area we all think we are familiar with, either by its reputation or simply from numerous games of Monopoly…but I usually find that most people have not got much beyond Bond Street in their exploration of the area around Mayfair itself.  From the hustle and bustle of the shopping streets, to quieter residential roads and gardens, there is a lot of history to discover and some great photo opportunities to.

Today’s picture is taken in the little island of calm at Mount Street Gardens, sandwiched in between the Jesuit Church at Farm Street and what I understand used to be the site of a workhouse.  This magnificent sculpture of a horse’s head is really eye-catching, as its colour and texture contrast with the surrounding smooth brick buildings, and the striations in the metal really convey a strong sense of energy and movement.
