In some ways, today’s picture is quite similar to yesterday’s I suppose, at least in structure – a sweeping landscape with a bright blue sky! The content could not be more different though, with yesterday’s crowded urban environment replaced by a building-free seascape.
In today’s image I was most interested in the background: the texture of the sea, the deep blue of the sky, the shape of the clouds, and the ship on the horizon. By allowing the foreground to go into silhouette, I hope I’ve been able to focus attention on these areas, which might otherwise be missed amidst the vegetation and the interest of the foreshore.
We tend to notice most closely those things which are right in front of us, but if photography teaches us anything, it is to study the whole of a scene and the entire sweep of a view.
