I’m off to Dusseldorf for a few days, and very much looking forward to getting to know a new city – the views, the atmosphere, the people, the history. But sometimes it’s fun to be a tourist in your own city as well, and that’s something I really enjoy doing in London.
It might mean taking the time to go to that museum or palace which you’ve always meant to visit, but have never quite got round to! When sights are on our doorstop, it’s all to easy to put off visiting until next week, next month, or next year.
And being a tourist in your own city can also mean taking a different route to walk to work, or just looking around a bit more carefully on your normal route, taking time to notice the views.
In terms of photography, I’m always excited to find new views of iconic buildings, perhaps framing them with something unexpected or observing them from an unusual angle. This little glimpse of Tower Bridge is revealed through buildings on the south bank of the river.
